By the time I'd started to get out and about with a camera, Wigan had taken on the role of EWS's Component Recovery Centre, and a macabre sight it projected. Locos were littered around the former depot, many of which had holes cut in the sides and components ripped from within. However, as this article hopes to show, there was, and is, much more to say about Springs Branch, from its days as a predominantly freight- only depot through to its latest rebirth.
