The seventh of September last year saw the 62nd birthday of one of the steam locomotive members of royalty - No 46229 Duchess of Hamilton. Unfortunately, the 'Duchess' is currently no longer a mam line steam loco. It was designed by Sir William Stainer for the London Midland & Scottish Railway in 1937, and built in 1938, one of 36 mighty Pacific locomotives constructed at Crewe Works, officially known as the 'Princess Coronation' class and numbered from 6220-6255.
