If you do the job carefully enough and efficiently enough, as they did with the JFK AirTrain, you win the Dr. W.W. Hay Award for Excellence from AREMA. Over the years, more than 20 options to create an efficient transit link connecting the airport to existing public transportation were proposed and discarded. But the final goal remained: To provide a high-quality transit system that would attract a significant portion of the 32 million passengers that pass through JFK International Airport annually, along with the 37,000 employees who work there.
