Modifying friction smoothes the way

Rail lubrication, both gauge-face and top-of-rail, is smoothing the way for the railroads to achieve better fuel efficiency and longer service life for wheels and rails. Friction Management Services, LLC, a joint venture of the Timken Co. and Tranergy Corp., provides the locomotive-based top-of-rail system TracGlide™ to railroads. Recent innovations include 90-day service capability, more-robust hardware, an extreme-cold-weather package and system changes to eliminate the need for locomotive engineer involvement.
