Cancer isn't funny. It not only kills people, but it often draws out that death for painful weeks and months. My father, a trainman for many decades, died of cancer when he was younger than I am now, long before he could take his pension and rest. My mother fought and beat cancer, but I'm sure that battle shortened her life by many years. Perhaps that's why I get angry when I see lawyers using cancer as a legal football to try to gain some points in the media during a trial.
