Ah, it's spring, when a young man's fancy turns to what he's probably been thinking about all winter anyway. Nevertheless, with the frost out of the ground, now is a great time to go out and actually do track work, not just think about it, and that's precisely what the North American railroad industry is doing.rnYes, traffic is down. Weekly traffic reports from AAR tell us that, as do the miles of parked railroad cars occupying track all over the continent. Economists say we're in a recession and have been in one since late 2007. For some, a recession is when your neighbor gets laid off. A depression is when you get laid off.rnToo many folks have been laid off and more will probably be losing jobs or shifting jobs in the months to come.
