US DOT awards $279 million in TIGER grants

The United States Department of Transportation awarded $511 million in TIGER III discretionary grants to 46 capital construction projects in 33 states. Rail-related projects will see $279 million of those funds. In a prepared statement, the US DOT stated, "the announcement comes months ahead of schedule and will allow communities to move forward with critical, job-creating infrastructure projects including road and bridge improvements; transit upgrades; freight, port and rail expansions and new options for bicyclists and pedestrians."
