The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) reached a milestone in its efforts to add a second mainline along the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) rail corridor when it completed 5.2 miles of new double track at two locations in November 2015. "To date, the LOSSAN corridor in San Diego County is 67 percent double tracked," SANDAG Executive Director Gary Gallegos said. "Every mile of double track we add helps to improve the movement of people and goods through the corridor and take pressure off the I-5 freeway."
