Die Linienzugbeeinflussung wurde in den 70er Jahren entwickelt. Sie ermöglicht Geschwindigkeiten größer 160 km/h und erhöhte die Kapazitäten im Netz. Das System soll bis Ende der 20er Jahre durch ETCS Level 2 abgelöst werden. Die Migration unter rollendem Rad wird für die DB Netz AG und ihre Kunden eine große Herausforderung darstellen.%Since the 1970s, DB Netz AG and its predecessors have been operating a linear system of continuous automatic train control (known as "LZB"). This has made it possible on roughly 2500 kilometres of track to increase speeds to up to 300 km/h and to improve capacities. The system is going to fall short of requirements in the coming decade and is to be replaced with ETCS Level 2. Migration while the wheels keep rolling is going to represent a huge challenge for DB Netz and the train operating companies. DB Netz has thus set up a working party with the remit of producing and coordinating a replacement concept. Initial results are expected next year.
