The German Centre for Railway Traffic Research at Eisenbahn-Bundesamt (DZSF) has the task of strengthening the railway transport in Germany by Solution- and practice-oriented research. In a signifcant changing environment and changing demographic, social and technological frame conditions and challenges, the transport mode railway must also develop further.Therefore, the aim is to extend the existing System advantages and strengthen the railway as a reliable, climate friendly and economical transport mode. DZSF uses all instruments of departmental research, contract research, own research activities and research subsidies.The aim is, depending on task or questioning, to economically use the available budget. DZSF will build an important Interface between science, sector and politics. With high scientific and practical Standards, the railway research will be sustainably led to where the pressure to act is greatest and the effective impact of the research results will support the market where a breakthrough of its own accord is not possible.
