Istanbul airport metro tracklaying begins

The start of tracklaying on a metro line to Istanbul's new airport was marked on January 18 when President Erdogan attended the welding of a first rail at the future Gayrettepe terminus.The 37.5 km line M11 is being built by a consortium of Kolin and Senbay under a €999.8m contract awarded in December 2016. Civil works are largely complete, the tunnels having been excavated using earth pressure balance TBMs, cut-and-cover and the New Austrian Tunnelling Method. Fitting out of the nine stations is underway, along with the installation of track, CBTC and telecoms equipment.
