Italy's T-shaped Alta Velocita/Alta Capacita network that connects the country's most important cities is well on the way to completion (RG 10.17 p62).Tne final Firenze - Bologna section of the north - south route between Milano and Napoli was commissioned in December 2009, at the same time as a high speed route between Novara and Milano forming part of the western bar of the T. The section from Torino to Novara had opened in 2006, leaving only the eastern bar from Milano to Venezia - known popularly as La Serenissima - to be finished.
