Shaping the freight/passenger rail interface

Our nation's privately owned freight railroads are successful partners with passenger railroads all across the country. Around 97% of the 22,000 miles over which Amtrak operates are owned by freight railroads, and hundreds of millions of commuter trips each year occur on commuter rail systems that operate at least partially over tracks or right-of-way owned by freight railroads.
