Adding lighting is arguably the easiest and most believable way of animating and bringing life to a layout or diorama. In the past, modelers have relied on fragile incandescent "grain-of-rice" bulbs which not only give off an amazing amount of heat but also draw quite a bit of current. Often when illuminating a city block or large factory the hobbyist would need to assign a dedicated power supply. The introduction of LED lighting has moved the state of the art forward immeasurably, but can be both difficult and expensive to install.
