摘要

Laser diode light sources with emission in the visible spectrum are making fiber optic remote source lighting systems viable for large scale use on naval vessels. The lasers greatly reduce the components' costs and improve efficiencies, allowing for reliable systems with long source life, light weight, and no electrical and metallic parts topside. Two research projects confirmed the feasibility of this technology, with only minimal adaptation required for implementation on new constructions and on in-service vessels.
