Network Rail spends record £2.5 billion on small businesses

Network Rail says it spent more than £2.5 billion with small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in 2019-20 - the first time this amount has been exceeded. A total of 4,246 suppliers were contracted directly with NR, of which 3,051 (71.9%) were small businesses - an increase of 440 from 2017-18.
