Eastern Rail Services' newly acquired Mk 3 moved to Yarmouth sidings

Former European Passenger Services Mk 3 generator coach 96374 has been moved to Great Yarmouth. Purchased by Eastern Rail Services, the former Sleeper coach arrived at the company's site at Vauxhall Carriage Sidings by road on August 5. Fitted with two Cummins diesel engines, five vehicles (96371-96375) were intended to be used as generator vans marshalled between two EPS Class 37/6s for the ill-fated Nightstar project. At one point the Mk 3s were even classified as locomotives.They have been stored for more than a decade, but Eastern Rail Services now owns two with 96371 also in the fleet.The plan is to use them for electric train supply for the company's growing coaching stock fleet. However, there is also interest from train operating companies regarding their use, with Caledonian Sleeper thought to be interested in using one to provide power for its Mk 5s when on depot.
