First ex-GWR HSTs scrapped at Newport

Six High Speed Train Mk 3s arrived at Sims Group, Newport, on February 21 - the first former Great Western Railway vehicles to be scrapped. Owned by Porterbrook, they had been stored at Long Marston and are the second batch of HST coaches sent for scrap by the rolling stock leasing company (the first had been operated by LNER). Although it expects to find work for some vehicles, Porterbrook has told RAIL that it will only store HST vehicles (including power cars) for so long before they are dispatched for dismantling.
