Government asked to tackle Scottish overcrowding

The Scottish government has been urged to tackle overcrowding on trains after figures revealed a growing incidence of standing-room only on ScotRail services.Peak time trains on Glasgow-to-Bdinburgh services are most likely to be overcrowded, but some trains on the Strathclyde network had more than loo more passengers than seats.The figures were released by Transport Scotland through a freedom of information request by the Herald newspaper.They showed that passengers, in a typical week last summer, were obliged to stand for more than 10 minutes on 34 services. That compared to an average of eight services in the same period in 2006.
