The UK's largest capacity rail traverser has been installed at Felixstowe's new North Rail Terminal. With a 170 tonne capacity, the 30-metre long 90 tonne behemoth is specifically equipped to handle the locomotives of the future, which are expected to be larger than today's trains. Designed and built over a period of nearly a year by Sheffield-based heavy lifting solution specialist Mechan, the traverser was commissioned by main contractor Volker Fitzpatrick, which is handling civil works at the terminal.
