International rail freight transport still falls short of the mark in comparison with an optimal logistics chain and the operations carried out along such a chain. Its shortcomings basically boil down to: 1. the large number of operators involved, especially when it comes to multi-modal transport, each with their own interests and managing their own bespoke systems; 2. the patent inefficiency of the same data being input several times along the chain; 3. the dissatisfaction of the customer at the end of the logistics chain with the speed and quality of delivery which result from the aforementioned weaknesses.
