In this paper a finite element model for the analysis of the behaviour of geotextiles in railway subgrades is presented. The appropriate mesh of the geotextile and the laws governing its constitution are discussed. The results of the model show the stresses at the railway subgrade with and without the use ofgeotextiles. The model demonstrates that the use of geotextiles leads to a small decrease in the stresses at the subgrade, in the region of around 10%.
