The Russian Railways Present situation and prospects

Rail transport in the Russian Federation is undergoing radical changes. In 1999 the downward trend in passenger and freight volumes was halted and a positive tendency began, which has further amplified over 2000. Structural reform of Federal rail transport, which began in 1998, is now taking concrete shape. Long-haul passenger and suburban passenger have been established and freight operating companies are being set up.
