JR Central, the operator of the Tokaido Shinkansen, the world's first high-speed railway, is committed to the continuous pursuit of advances in technology and high quality railway systems in order to maintain its position as the forerunner of high speed rail. Since the Tokaido Shinkansen was built, heralding the other Shinkansens which followed in its wake, infrastructure constraints have become particularly severe, leading to research in a wide range of fields of technology.
