Over the last decade in Poland there has been a substantial and systematic decline in the number of rail passengers with the exception of travellers on premium trains (InterCity, Eurocity and express trains). This state of affairs was due on the one hand to growth in automobile traffic, but on the other, to a rail product for regional services that was no longer attuned to customer expectations.
