Shifting higher transport shares to the railway

Against the background of the expected traffic growth in the years to come, it is the objective of our transport policy to secure mobility in line with economic requirements. In view of the increasing use of the other transport modes to capacity and the related environmental strains, attractive and efficient railway services are indispensable. An efficient and sustainable transport policy requires an overall transport concept integrating all transport modes and placing them in a position to make full use of their specific advantages. In this connection, the railway has to assume a major part at national as well as at international level, since it is especially cross-border transport which offers promising chances for the railway, particularly in the common market.
