Contribution to optimising the rail mode's role in intercity passenger services

One of the aspects accompanying the growth in certain transport modes in Europe until very recently has doubtless been inter-modal competition. Requests made to public authorities in one form or another for financial resources for each mode were based on arguments about the need to provide a product with a higher standard of quality in order to enhance competitiveness with rival modes.
