￡370m for station accessibility

Over ￡370m is to be spent between 2006-07 and 2014-15 on making stations more accessible for disabled passengers. This 'Access for All' fund is additional to existing improvements being made under franchise agreements, the minor works scheme and as part of major projects. Network Rail will be responsible for 80% of the expenditure. Only capital expenditure is eligible and will be funded through the company's Regulatory Asset Base. DfT will be responsible for the remainder, which will be available for revenue expenditure such as staffing or the maintenance of capital improvements made under the fund. SRA is focusing the capital element of the fund on three areas: 'passenger announcement systems', customer information systems and step-free access.
