Four new trains join extra Pendolino cars

Plans to lengthen the Virgin West Coast Pendolino fleet to 11 cars have been revived to take advantage of the fleet undergoing H3 overhaul, reports Tony Miles. Angel Trains and Alstom are also proposing to build four new trainsets at the same time, replacing No 390 033 written off following the Grayrigg derailment. The extra trains would enable the Liverpool service to be increased to half-hourly, and would provide cover for the heavy overhaul programme running from 2012 into 2013 at the start of the next West Coast franchise.
