Replacing the electric 1C225 and diesel 1C125 trainsets on the East Coast Main Line is now the priority for DfT Rail's Intercity Express Programme. The final bids submitted on December 5 were required to provide costed proposals for the Pre-Series trains, the East Coast Phase 1 and 2 fleets, plus the West Coast Main Line (South) commuter trains.rnWhile IEP is notionally a highspeed train, the ECML Phase 2 and WCML (South) requirements are for half-length (five-car) electric commuter trains. These trains will cover 11 diagrams on what are now First Capital Connect services from London King's Cross to Cambridge and Kings Lynn as well as 22 diagramsrnon London Midland's Euston -Northampton service.
