Bombardier Faces Overseas Challenge In Dmu Battle

While the tight timescale for the DfT Rail DMU order (p7) clearly favours Bombardier, at least one overseas company is expecting to compete. CSR Nanjing of China, which has already been working on a UK DMU design, claims that a contract award date of March 2009 could see factory testing of the first pre-production unit start in the first week of October 2010.rnOn-track testing in the UK with the first five production units would be completed by the end of July 2011, enabling passenger service to start at the end of September. Production would continue at a rate of 30 vehicles a month for the remainder of the contract.
