Under DfT Rail's Rolling Stock Plan for CP4, National Express East Anglia is due to acquire 30 four-car EMUs. Procurement was already underway when the RSP was issued in January this year.rnDespite already operating a fleet of 21 four-car Siemens Class 360 Desiro EMUs, NXEA published an OJEU notice for the additional units in June 2007. According to the OJEU, the intention was that the first unit would enter service in June 2009.rnBids have been received from Siemens and Bombardier with both companies offering proven designs that are currently in production. Proposals for the necessary changes to the Greater Anglia franchise, supported by a business case based on the two bids, was submitted to DfT Rail in mid-June this year. DfT has confirmed that negotiations with NXEA will continue into 2009, but industry insiders suggest that if the deal is finalised by March they will be doing well.
