New route to Oxford

On October 9 Adrian Shooter provided further details on the proposal for a half-hourly Chiltem Railways service between Marylebone and Oxford (RBI326 p4). 'The Oxford route is something we've been planning for a long time and it's very simple', he explained. To connect the Chiltern main line with the Oxford - Bletchley route at Bicester 'we will put in a short curve about a quarter of a mile long; the land for that curve has been preserved in the local authority's structure plan for the last 11 years. Then we'll upgrade the existing single-track, very low speed route from Bicester through to Oxford to a twin-track 100 mile/h railway which will terminate in two bay platforms at the north end of Oxford station'.
