Seven out of nine safety trajectories met

In its Annual Safety Performance Report for 2007 published on May 1, the Rail Safety & Standards Board demonstrates that National Rail made satisfactory progress along trajectories defined in its Strategic Safety Plan foT improvements in all but two of nine Key Risk Areas. One KRA concerns the safety of passengers on trains, which suffered when one person was killed and 88 were injured during the Grayrigg derailment on February 23 2007. This accident caused 28 major injuries, whereas the average for the four previous years was only three.
