During the sustainable power seminar, one topic listed for a panel discussion chaired by RBl's Founding Editor was 'what experiences can we learn from past electrification schemes?' This was dealt with comprehensively by Don Heath, Project Manager for BR's 1984-91 East Coast Main Line electrification project. 'One of the things which 1 was able to benefit from was the fact that it took no less than four years to get the project authorised', he said. 'During that time, we and our suppliers were able to get a lot of preparation done in the way of training people and making sure they had the right experience'.
