The first of a dozen intermo-dal services linking Britain directly with continental hubs which EWS expects to launch this year started operations on March 4 when a train left Duisburg in Germany for Trafford Park. The new services are a direct result of the simplified charging structure announced by Eurotunnel last October, which replaced tonnage-based tariffs with a fixed charge per train regardless of length (RB1305 p3).
