RAIB reports on road-rail vehicles

The number of road-rail vehicles deployed on the national network increased dramatically with privatisation as all infrastructure work was outsourced to contractors. By July 2009, the number of RRVs registered with Network Rail was 1 669.rnLast month RAIB reported on a comprehensive investigation into RRV safety, reflecting in particular the high proportion of runaways that have involved these vehicles. In addition to powered RRVs, the study included rail trailers that are designed to be coupled to them.
