DfT's contract with Alstom Transport for 106 additional Class 390 vehicles covers the supply of four new trainsets plus the lengthening of 31 sets in the existing fleet from nine to 11-car formations. There is also an option for a further 42 vehicles to lengthen the remaining sets which expires in August 2010.
