National Express Group plc announced late on October 28 that it had withdrawn from talks about a possible merger with Stagecoach. According to NEG, the move was intended to clear the way for the expected rights issue which the company wants to complete by Christmas.rn'The board has concluded that it is unlikely that a combination with Stagecoach could be successfully executed in 2009 even if appropriate terms could be agreed', said NEG. The company added that it would press ahead with the rights issue which is expected to raise £300m to £350m.
