Organisational quandary

Decisions on organising Public Members and the total number that should be appointed were bounced back to the Members' Review Group following the workshops held by NR Chairman Rick Haythornthwaite early in September.rnAt the workshops, Haythornthwaite indicated that he would prefer a single initial point of contact with the Members. Under his predecessor, Public Members were free to make direct contact to raise individual concerns.rnMRG thinking is that the need for an elected co-ordinator goes beyond contact with the NR board. For example, there is a need to arrange Members' meetings with ORR, to coordinate issues raised by Members and to advise the board on the strength of these views. Equally, there needs to be some way of collating the information needs of Members over and above those met by NR and putting this requirement to the company, ORR or seeking external advice.rnOn the issue of the size of the NR membership, it is likely that MRG will propose a reduction, but how this is to be achieved is not yet clear.
