MPs raise pressure over Northern rolling stock

Transport Secretary Lord Adonis is to meet with MPs representing Greater Manchester constituencies in September to discuss the reduction in Northern Rail's rolling stock allocation under the HLOS for CP4 (RB1346 p1). A cross-party group of 12 MPs led by Tony Lloyd (Labour, Manchester Central) had requested the meeting after receiving a delegation from Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority on July 15.rnNorthern was originally allocated a net additional 182 vehicles to support the additional capacityrnplanned in the HLOS. This number was reduced to 106, of which 69 were to come from DfT's own Diesel Multiple-Unit Project. DMUP was cancelled following the government's electrification announcement of July 23, increasing the uncertainty over Northern's future allocation.
