Speaking at the launch, Transport Secretary Philip Hammond emphasised that the creation of Eurostar International as an incorporated company meant that the business 'can be managed effectively and efficiently with greater coherence'. The company could now 'take decisions in its own commercial interests'. As a shareholder, the UK government was keen to see that Eurostar is 'well positioned to attract the resources it needs in order to take advantage of the market opportunities'.
