In a statement issued on September 27, Crossrail Ltd has highlighted areas where it expects to be able to reduce the cost of the project, currently quoted as £15-9bn. It also claims that a revised business case shows that the new east-west rail link under London would deliver £42bn of benefits to the UK economy, resulting in 'a £17bn tax boost for the Treasury'. Previous estimates suggested the benefits would be £36bn.
