East Midlands Trains has begun a £5m programme to refurbish its 17 single-car Class 153 and 11 two-car Class 156 diesel multiple-units, with No 153 319 being the first to enter the programme on July 6.rnThe work is being carried out at EMT's Neville Hill depot in Leeds and includes re-upholstered seating, new internal lighting, new carpetsrnand the installation of CCTV in all cars. There will also be extensive modifications to improve reliability. Work on No 153 319 is expected to take seven weeks to complete, and refurbishment of all 39 vehicles is scheduled to take 16 months.
