DB to London for 2012 Games

Confirming its intention to run ICE high-speed trainsets through the Channel Tunnel, Deutsche Bahn now hopes to launch direct services between Germany and London in time for the 2012 Olympic Games. Siemens is currently building 15 Velaro D multi-voltage ICE trainsets for DB, designated Class 407; the first is due to start test running at Wildenrath in September following its unveiling at the manufacturer's Krefeld plant on April 28 (RB1366 p7). These trainsets are due to enter service at the end of 2011, running between Germany and southern France over the first section of the new Rhine-Rhone high-speed line between Mulhouse and Dijon.
