Raib's report on an accident that occurred at 23.42 on January 28 when a passenger fell into the gap between the platform edge and a train standing at Brentwood station just before it started to leave reveals how fortunate she was to escape with 'minor injuries including cuts and bruises', thanks to quick action by another passenger. The National Express East Anglia service from London Liverpool Street, operated with two four-car Class 315 EMUs, was making its penultimate stop before terminating at Shenfield. The doors had only been open for 17 sec when the driver, under Driver-Only Operation, initiated closure. To see the platform opposite the last two coaches he should have used a TV monitor on the platform, but from where he had stopped it was barely visible.
