The first regular freight service on High Speed 1 is due to arrive in Barking in the early hours of November 11, having departed from Wroclaw in Poland on the evening of November 8. DB Schenker Rail reports high customer demand for its service operating once a week in each direction, 'resulting in strong orders' from the automotive, retail and food sectors. 'The introduction of this new railfreight service between Poland and the UK will be the first of a number of such trains which utilise the DB Schenker Rail pan-European network', said DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd Chief Executive Alain Thauvette on October 24. 'This is an important step for railfreight in Europe, as a new market has been developed and a new trading route opened'.
