Smartcards stall in Scotland

While the Scottish Government committed to ITSO-compliant smartcards for its national concessionary bus travel scheme as early as 2006, analysis by Transport Scotland has revealed little potential for integrating ticketing systems across transport modes outside Strathclyde before 2018. This is despite the Scottish bus fleet already being equipped with card readers at a cost of £42m.
