Fine concludes Potters Bar prosecution

Nine years after seven people were killed at Potters Bar on May 10 2002 because defective facing points moved under the last coach of the 12.45 London - King's Lynn service, Network Rail as successor to Rail-track was fined £3m at St Albans Crown Court on May 13. It was also ordered to pay costs of £150 000 for a breach of Section 3(1) of the Health ft Safety at Work Act 1974, in a prosecution brought by ORR.NR had pleaded guilty on the grounds that it failed as infrastructure controller to provide and implement suitable and sufficient standards, procedures and guidance for the installation, maintenance and inspection of adjustable stretcher bars, as fitted to the points which caused the Potters Bar derailment.
