In a letter to shareholders distributed on March 8, Eurotunnel Chairman Et Chief Executive Jacques Gounon clarified the situation relating to the insurance indemnity outstanding from the freight shuttle fire in the Channel Tunnel in September 2008 (RB1385 p5). At the close of 2010, payment of €59m by Eurotunnel's insurers was still outstanding because it had been blocked by a court order obtained by Eurostar 'so as to protect its own interests'. The highspeed operator had suffered a loss of revenue as capacity through the Channel Tunnel was reduced in the months following the fire, when single-line working was in force while extensive repairs were made to Interval 6.
